High‑Security Access Control & Alarm Integration for a Rifle Range in Kent
Kent-ITS delivered a fully engineered high-security access control and alarm integration for a newly constructed centre-fire rifle range in Kent.
The system was designed to support secure out-of-hours member access while maintaining strict safety, monitoring, and operational requirements. By combining Paxton Net2 access control with a Texecom Premier alarm system, the solution provides a unified security environment with predictable behaviour, full door-state monitoring, and a seamless user experience.
The client required a security system significantly more demanding than a typical access-controlled site. The facility needed to support authorised member access outside staffed hours while maintaining strict safety, monitoring, and operational controls.
Traditional key-based access was not suitable, as it offered no audit trail, no revocation capability, and no way to enforce correct entry or exit behaviour.
Every door required full monitoring, including detection of forced entry, held-open conditions, and failed-to-latch states. The system also needed to guarantee predictable behaviour during power loss, avoiding any fail-open scenarios that could compromise security.
Integration with the intruder alarm system was essential, ensuring that access events could automatically control arming and disarming. This prevented incorrect operating sequences and ensured the site could never be unintentionally left unsecured.
Despite the complexity behind the scenes, the user experience needed to remain simple: members present a credential, and the system handles all logic automatically. Administrators required full visibility of system status, door states, and user activity through a centralised management platform.
Kent-ITS designed and implemented a fully integrated security system combining Paxton Net2 access control with a Texecom Premier intruder alarm platform.
Access control is managed using centrally issued electronic credentials, allowing user permissions, schedules, and access rights to be controlled through the Net2 management system. Credentials can be issued, modified, or revoked instantly, removing dependency on physical keys.
The intruder alarm system is directly integrated with access control events. Authorised access automatically manages arming and disarming sequences, ensuring the alarm state always reflects the real-time condition of the site. This prevents invalid system states and enforces correct operational behaviour.
All critical doors are equipped with monitored locking and door-state detection. This provides continuous feedback on door position and latch status, allowing the system to detect and respond to forced entry, held-open conditions, or failed closure events.
Power resilience is built into the system through dedicated, battery-backed power supplies supporting controllers, locking hardware, and alarm components. This ensures the system remains in a secure and predictable state during power loss.
The entire system is managed through a centralised interface, providing administrators with full visibility of access activity, alarm events, and system status.
The completed system delivers a fully integrated access control and alarm solution aligned with the operational and security requirements of the rifle range.
Physical key management has been completely eliminated, removing associated risks and administrative overhead. Access is now controlled through centrally managed electronic credentials, allowing immediate revocation without disruption to other users.
Integration between access control and the intruder alarm system ensures the site remains secure at all times. Arming and disarming are handled automatically as part of normal operation, reducing reliance on user behaviour and preventing incorrect system states.
Continuous door monitoring provides assurance that all access points are secure after use. Forced entry, held-open conditions, and latch failures are detected in real time, with appropriate alerts generated.
The system enables secure out-of-hours access for authorised members while maintaining strict control over site integrity, supporting flexible operation without compromising safety.
Overall, the solution provides a reliable, scalable, and maintainable security infrastructure, delivering improved visibility, control, and long-term operational efficiency.
